The project
In Europe there are many positive experiences with organising Adult Learners’ Weeks within the context of Lifelong Learning. The activities differ from country to country and involve a huge number of learners and organisations. The organisations involved in Adult Learners’ Week Evaluation (ALWE) felt a need for further improvement of the Adult Learners’ Week (ALW), especially regarding tools to measure and evaluate the impact of activities towards disadvantaged groups and areas, and towards the Voice of the Learner in the preparation, delivery and evaluation of the ALW.
During the project period five international meetings took place, three of them with full and useful participation of learners. Each meeting consisted of group discussions and study visits. After having analyzed existing evaluation models, the partners developed two instruments that can help to increase the quality of the ALW, especially the cooperation between local ALW partners and the involvement of learners in all stages of the ALW.
These instruments have been tested during the second project year. They were evaluated as good instruments, useful for local ALW organisers and also valuable for other adult education activities.
The final outcome of ALWE is
- an evaluation framework for working together in local partnerships
- a framework for involving learners in the organisation of the Adult Learners’ Week
- the website www.alwe-online.nl from where the two instruments can be downloaded and which will serve as a platform for ALWE partners after the formal project period.
Project partners came from Estonia, Finland and The Netherlands, plus two invited partners from Switzerland and the UK.
